Privacy Policy

Effective date: 23 September 2026 ยท Applies to the Orant mobile app

In plain words

Orant works on your device first. Your prayers stay on your phone unless you choose to create an account, back them up, or share them. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we never ask for your phone number. Prayer is personal โ€” we treat everything you write as sensitive and use it only to run the app for you.

1. Who we are

Orant is operated by Timi Ojo, an independent developer based in Nigeria ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at hello@timiojo.com.

2. Orant is local-first

You can use Orant without an account. In that case, your prayer sections, prayer points, testimonies, streaks, session history, and settings are stored only on your device. We cannot see them, and they are removed if you delete the app (or use Settings โ†’ Advanced โ†’ clear data). Because we hold no copy, deleting the app without ever enabling backup permanently deletes your prayers โ€” there is nothing we can restore.

Some optional features involve sending data to us or to other users. Each is described below, and each only happens when you turn it on or take the action yourself.

3. What we collect, feature by feature

Account (optional)

If you create an account we collect your email address, a username you choose, and a password(stored only in securely hashed form). Your username is visible to other users in community features. We deliberately do not collect phone numbers.

Backup & Sync (optional)

If you turn on backup, your prayer sections, prayer points, testimonies, and related settings are copied to our cloud storage (hosted with Supabase) so you can restore them on a new device. Backups are linked to your account and encrypted in transit. If you never turn on backup, this data never leaves your device.

Community โ€” Pray for Others (optional)

If you post a prayer request, the request text and your username are visible to all Orant users. We also store the count of people who tapped "Pray" on your request. Please do not include other people's identifying details in a request. You can delete your requests, and we may remove requests that break our Terms.

Community โ€” Pray Together (optional)

If you invite someone by username or accept an invite, we store the group name, its members' usernames, the shared prayers, and presence information (for example, that you are currently praying with the group). This is visible only to members of that group. We also store your list of blocked users so that blocks work.

Personalisation (optional)

During setup you may tell us what you want to pray about, your Christian tradition, and how often you want to pray. These answers are used only to choose the default prayers and reminders we suggest to you. Every question can be skipped and changed or cleared later in Settings.

Notifications (optional)

If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver Pray Together invites, reminders you set, and streak milestones. Reminder times you configure are stored on your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings or at the system level.

Scan a page (optional)

If you use the camera to scan a page from a prayer book, the image is processed to extract the text into prayer points. To do this, the image is sent over an encrypted connection to OCR.space, a text recognition service, which returns the text to the app. We do not keep the image on our servers. Only scan pages you are happy to have processed this way.

Support

If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you and improve the app.

Diagnostics

We collect crash reports and basic usage analytics (for example, which screens are opened and which features are used) through PostHog to keep the app stable and understand what to improve. These reports do not include the text of your prayers.

What we never collect

4. Your prayers are religious data

What you pray about, your testimonies, and any tradition you select can reveal your religious beliefs. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 this is "sensitive personal data", and under UK and EU data protection law it is "special category data". Either way, it receives extra protection. We process it only with your explicit consent โ€” given when you create an account, turn on Backup & Sync, or post to the community โ€” and only to provide the features you asked for. We never use your prayer content for advertising, profiling, or marketing, and we never sell it. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning the feature off or deleting your account.

5. How we use data, and our legal bases

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers. Data is shared only with:

7. International transfers

Your account, backups, and community content are stored with Supabase on servers in Germany, in the European Union. Some of our other providers, such as PostHog and the Apple and Google push notification services, may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where data is transferred to another country, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, as required by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, where they apply, UK and EU data protection law.

8. How long we keep data

9. Deleting your account and data

You can delete your account inside the app (Settings โ†’ Profile โ†’ Delete account) or, without the app, by following the steps on our account deletion page. Deletion removes your account, email, username, cloud backups, community posts, and group memberships. Prayers stored only on your device are yours to keep or remove locally.

10. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (and, where they apply to you, UK GDPR and EU GDPR) you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@timiojo.com and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) or to the data protection authority where you live, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

11. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and access to our systems is restricted. No app can promise perfect security, but we treat your prayer life with the care it deserves.

12. Children

Orant is for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a meaningful way we will update the date above and let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
